Chicago Avenue Mission

514 S. Chicago Ave.

The Freeport Area Church Cooperative is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide emergency food, clothing, and shelter to those in need. The Chicago Avenue Mission operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for men, women, and families. We’re constantly upgrading our shelter to increase the quality of life for our clients while we work to secure them permanent housing. Clients are provided case management and nightly meals provided by volunteering organizations in the community. Clients staying at the shelter benefit from a number of resources including budgeting assistance, access to showers and laundry, obtaining vital documents, applying for housing, and more. Additionally, New Horizon’s Counselling Center has teamed up with FACC through a grant providing free counselling to our shelter clients.

Freeport Area Church Cooperative (FACC) is run by a network of local delegate churches who are committed to providing a helping hand to those who need it most. The shelter is open 24/7, 365 days a year and offers a safe and secure environment for men, women, and families who are experiencing homelessness. In addition to shelter, the organization also provides limited outreach assistance to the community. This includes providing furniture to those who are transitioning out of homelessness or who cannot afford to purchase furniture.

Case management is also a key component of FACC's outreach services. Case managers work with individuals to help them apply for housing, government benefits, and social services such as drug treatment and counseling. They also help individuals acquire vital documents such as birth certificates and social security cards.
